Within the IT corridor of Prestwick International Airport, our team embarked on the meticulous task of removing 95m2 of asbestos insulating board ceiling tiles and metal grid over a 9-day period. The sensitive nature of the location required the closure of the corridor to all staff members, who were temporarily relocated for the duration of the asbestos removal works.

We used electric scissor lifts from Sunbelt Rental and mobile scaffolding from Speedy Hire to access the ceiling safely and efficiently. Given space constraints, a welfare DCU provided by SMH ensured the comfort and well-being of our team throughout the project. Additionally, Greenair supplied a 20 KVA JCB generator along with essential equipment, including type H vacuums, negative pressure units (NPU), CCTV, viewing panels, and 110v cables.

Our meticulous approach involved securely fixing panels to metal tracking using screws before removing asbestos under tightly controlled conditions. All asbestos-containing material, along with the metal tracking, was disposed of as contaminated waste. To ensure proper containment and disposal, waste was meticulously bagged, double-bagged, and transported to an enclosed Greenair asbestos skip provided by Burnfield Demolition.

  • Shadow vacuuming and intact removal of AIB were conducted using a drill with a drill mate attachment and a type H vacuum.
  • A welfare decontamination unit remained on-site for the duration of the works.
  • Work enclosures were maintained under negative pressure, with smoke tests validating effectiveness and 2 x 5000 NPUs attached per area.
  • All personnel adhered to strict personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols, including full-face respirators, cat 5/6 coveralls, rubber gloves, and steel toe cap boots.
