Do you need an Asbestos Removal Contractor in the County Durham area?
In April 2022, we successfully executed an asbestos removal project at the former Marley Tiles factory, situated near Consett in County Durham. The scope of our work encompassed the safe removal of asbestos insulating (AIB) wall panels spanning approximately 500 square meters in Building 1. In Building 2, our team removed 8 meters of asbestos insulating ceiling panels.
At GreenAir Environmental, our top priority is ensuring the secure removal of asbestos, followed by the safe disposal and compliant transportation of asbestos waste. |

For the AIB located on high-level internal walls, our approach involved having a skilled joiner construct timber frames to create the necessary enclosures. To facilitate the setup, scissor lifts and cherry pickers were employed. We brought our dedicated decontamination unit and a 20 KVA JCB generator to the site for the entire project duration. Additionally, we equipped ourselves with essential tools, including Type H vacuums, negative pressure units (NPU), CCTV systems, viewing panels, and 110v cables.
The asbestos panels were affixed to metal tracking using screws. We removed the asbestos under carefully controlled conditions, including the complete removal and disposal of the contaminated metal tracking. All waste materials were methodically bagged, double-bagged, and transported through our designated bag lock and waste route to a 40-yard enclosed asbestos skip, generously provided by Total Recycling.

What control measures were used on-site to reduce exposure to asbestos at the Consett site?
To minimize asbestos exposure risks on-site in County Durham, we implemented a series of stringent control measures, including:
- Shadow Vacuuming and Intact Removal: We utilized a drill with a drill mate attachment, paired with a Type H vacuum, during the unscrewing process of asbestos from the tracking, ensuring the intact removal of AIB.
- On-Site Decontamination Unit: Throughout the five-week project, GreenAir Environmental maintained a dedicated decontamination unit on-site.
- Negative Pressure Enclosure: We fully enclosed the work areas under negative pressure conditions, performing smoke tests to verify their integrity. Four 5000 NPU units were employed in each designated area.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Our workforce wore full face respirators, Category 5/6 coveralls, rubber gloves, and steel toe cap boots to guarantee their safety and protection throughout the project.
